In 2022, Scott was told he had less than a 50% chance of surviving two years without a liver transplant.

This is what we did instead.

I'm Kristy. That's my husband Scott, and the pug between us is Jack — our supervisor.

When Scott's first liver specialist delivered the diagnosis without looking us in the eye, we walked out and never went back. We cleaned out the pantry that weekend. Started keto. Built a healing environment around him — ocean waves, Tibetan singing bowls, the kind of music that makes your cells remember joy.

His MELD score was 26 at diagnosis. Three months later it was 19. By December 2024, a Houston transplant specialist told us Scott has excellent liver function.

While we fought for Scott, something quiet happened for me too. I lost almost 80 pounds at 56 — after three years vegan, a 40-day juice fast, a 21-day water fast, and years of feeling like my body was broken.

This is the blog we built from all of it. Recipes we actually eat. The full story of what we did. Posts about Jack, because loving an animal is part of the journey too. And a running list of the small things that keep us grateful.

If you're here because something in your life just cracked open — welcome. You're not alone, and your story isn't over.

Small text is helpful in certain applications. It is often best to keep it short.

"His MELD score was 26. They told us two years. We walked out of that office holding hands and decided we were writing a different ending."
