Water’s Special Place in Our Lives

Water has always held a special place in our lives. For Scott and me, there’s something grounding about being near it — whether it’s the ocean, a lake, the comfort of a hot tub, or a quiet bath at the end of the day. For me, baths have always felt like sacred space: a place to pause, reset, breathe, and return to myself.

Dr. Emoto’s Water Experiment and Ice Crystals

Maybe that’s why Dr. Masaru Emoto’s work struck such a chord with us. His experiments revealed something we all instinctively sense: words, thoughts, and energy have a tangible effect. When water was exposed to kind, loving words or beautiful music, and then frozen, the resulting crystals formed intricate, breathtaking patterns — tiny mandalas of harmony. But when the water was exposed to negativity, cruelty, or fear, the crystals fractured, becoming malformed and chaotic.

This discovery has always stayed with us — especially knowing that our bodies are made mostly of water. If water responds to intention, then what we say, think, and even feel doesn’t just ripple outward; it shapes us, moment by moment. That’s part of the inspiration behind Love Gratitude Joy — a name, and a way of being, that reflects the vibrations we want to send into the world.

The Rice Experiment: A Powerful Lesson

Two jars of rice labeled 'LOVE' and 'HATE,' showing a visible difference in decay — a real-life example of Dr. Emoto’s experiment on the power of words and intention

Years ago, we stumbled upon Dr. Emoto’s rice experiment during a time when we were looking for a shift. It felt like fate, something we had to try. We cooked up some rice, divided it into eight jars, and labeled them with words like love and gratitude, while others got words like hate and anger. We didn’t expect much, but after a few weeks, we were absolutely amazed. The rice with the positive words stayed fresh, vibrant, and nearly untouched. The rice with the negative words? It turned black and moldy.

It was eye-opening. Words, energy — they matter. After that experiment, we got caught up in life and let the practice slip away. That is, until Scott’s health journey brought us back. We remembered the powerful lesson that words and energy change the outcome. Water holds memory and energy, and since our bodies are made of nearly 70% water, how could we not give more thought to the words we speak—and even the silent thoughts we think? Every vibration matters. The way we speak to ourselves, to others, and even to the world around us ripples through our inner waters, shaping how we feel, heal, and connect.

Shifting Our Energy

We decided to make a real shift. We started speaking kindness to ourselves and to each other. We turned off the news and drama shows and swapped them out for funny movies, comedies, and beautiful music. We played high-frequency tones, singing bowls, ocean waves, and calming sounds throughout the house. We wrote “Love, Gratitude, Joy” on our water bottles, allowing that energy to fill the space around us.

The Transformational Power of Love, Gratitude, Joy

What happened next felt truly amazing. As we let go of negativity and made room for positivity and love, we saw tangible changes in our lives. Not just in our health, but in our hearts, our relationships, and the peace we felt every day.

Dr. Emoto’s Ice Crystals

Dr. Masaru Emoto’s work proposed that positive words, including love, gratitude, and joy, could transform water into beautiful, symmetrical crystals when exposed to them, while negative words created fragmented, chaotic crystals. Since the human body is made largely of water, he suggested that our thoughts and feelings — carrying their own vibrations — could influence our “inner waters,” shaping us both physically and emotionally.

The Water Experiment

Method: Distilled water was placed in containers with written words taped to the outside, or spoken to directly with specific words and intentions.
Observation: The water was then frozen, and the resulting ice crystals were photographed under a microscope.
Results:

  • Positive Words: Water exposed to uplifting words like love, gratitude, and joy formed exquisite, symmetrical, snowflake-like crystals.
  • Negative Words: Water exposed to harsh words like hate or anger formed distorted, fragmented, and incomplete patterns.

A Way of Living

For us, Love, Gratitude, Joy isn’t just a name for us — it’s a philosophy. It’s a daily reminder to choose kindness, to speak words that lift us up, and to create an atmosphere that fosters healing and transformation. It’s about holding the energy we want to live in and inviting you to do the same. Because when we choose love, we change everything.

Why We Chose the Name Love Gratitude Joy

For us, Love, Gratitude, Joy isn’t just a name — it’s something we try to live by every day. And we say try because we’re human. We get frustrated. We get distracted. We fall into old habits, just like anyone else. But this philosophy gives us a compass — a way to return to the energy we want to embody. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being intentional. Every time we speak with kindness, every time we pause and breathe instead of react, every time we choose gratitude over complaint — we get a little closer to the life we’re trying to create.

Reflection

This is why we chose ocean waves on the TV during the day and filled our home with aesthetically beautiful things, like flowers, so that every time we walked by, we’d feel it and say, “Oh, I love that.” As we move forward, let’s remember that the energy we carry shapes the world around us. Are you watching too much news, gossip, or drama shows? Are you saying things like “I hate that” or focusing on negativity in the world?

Now is the time to lean into the words of love, gratitude, and joy. Start with “I love that,” “I love you,” and “You are amazing.” These small shifts in how we speak can create huge ripples of change. Even saying these words to yourself, your furbaby or plants can have a profound impact.

What words are you choosing today? What energy are you sending out? When we align ourselves with love, gratitude, and joy, we begin to transform not only ourselves but everything we touch. Take a moment to reflect on how you can infuse your day with more of the energy you want to see in the world.

A Note of Thanks

To Dr. Masaru Emoto — thank you for the courage to explore what many could not yet see. Your work opened our eyes, touched our hearts, and changed how we show up in the world. You reminded us that our words matter, that energy is real, and that love and gratitude aren’t just feelings — they’re frequencies.
We carry your legacy with us every day.

We also want to extend our gratitude to the Emoto Peace Project and those continuing Dr. Emoto’s mission. Your efforts keep this powerful message alive, inspiring a new generation to live with intention, compassion, and care.
